Daylight School was founded by Michael Kimpur in 2008 with 30 at-risk children and $250.
Michael himself was a victim of tribal violence and poverty in NW Kenya when, as a 9 tear old boy, he was separated from his tribe and family in a violent raid. He fled the violence and, days later, was rescued by a missionary couple who took him in and made sure he received an education, food, clothing and, most of all, love.
In 2006 Michael received a scholarship to Bethel University in St Paul Minnesota for a degree in Leadership where he met Nathan Roberts, who would become a co-founder of Daylight.
Kimpur’s stories of nomadic life in Kenya and his path to Bethel opened Roberts’ eyes to children with lives very different from his own—ones without safety, home or free education.
In the community there is a working farm with vegetable gardens, milk cows, goats, chickens and more that play a vital role of their long term goal of being self-sufficient.
Since those humble beginnings Daylight has purchased land and with volunteers and donors from the USA have since built a full campus including 15 classrooms, two dormitories, a kitchen, well and water tower, offices and homes for both the founding director and the lead teacher.
The school now has a 31 passenger bus, soccer field and playground.
We are currently seeing our first scholarship students move on to
post secondary education!
