Kenyan students return to school after weeks of flooding

Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu has outlined plans to recover the two weeks lost during the floods.  Initially scheduled to resume learning on April 29th,  students faced a delay of one week due to intensified rains.

Term two began on May 13th. According to the new schedule,
the second term will end on August 5th.

The midterm break is scheduled for June 20th -23rd.  Students will then have an extended three-week holiday from August 5th to August 25th.
August 23rd, schools reopen for term three.

Kenya has been grappling with relentless rains, impacting over 200,000 people.
Schools in Kenya will remain closed for another week. They will not open until at least May 6th.

School Calendar

Primary, and secondary schools in Kenya will open for term one on January 8, 2024 and close on April 5, 2024 after 13 weeks of learning.
In between, however, they will have a three-day half term break from February 29 to March 3, before a three-week holiday at the end of the term from April 8-26.

They will then go for the April holiday beginning April 8 to April 26 which will be three weeks.

School term two will begin from April 29 to August 2 a period of 14 weeks and proceed for half term from June 20 to June 23.

They will then close for the August holiday from August 5 to August 23 which is three weeks.

In term three, schools will begin the Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) and the Kenya Intermediate Level Education Assessment from October 28 to October 31 which is four days.

The KCSE examination will run from November 4 to November 22 which is three weeks.

Schools will then proceed for the December Holiday from October 2024 to January 3 ten weeks.
